ROMANCING THE PIZZA

Hello,

I am coming up on year 2 and being able to eat more and things that previously made me sick. I am fearful so I am writing. I noticed that I may have published dog park posts on this blog. OOOPS.

Not much to say, except, I had fell in love with pizza. I romanced pizza, I loved pizza, I worshipped pizza. But, the truth is...pizza and all are just fuel for our bio-machine bodies. Just food. Do not go romantic on it. A doc at Yale wrote about the bliss factor in obesity. Just think...I used to think of pizza and my brain would light up. Just the thought of it was a bit of a high. But, the truth is, that after two bites, I no longer could tast anything that I ate. So, why bother...it is just food, for God's sake...do not romanticize it. Do not lust after it...lust for life.

All comments are welcome.

DOG-O-RAMA

Hmmmm.,

Had a fun time today at dog park. Learned that there is a GNC vitamin store that has a section for dogs. They figured out which human vitamins when cut for the appropriate dog weight would allow people to buy cheaper supplements for our dogs. The GNC is at Addison near California (in the shopping mall with Target on Addison). Also, a GNC on Wabash and Chicago...same owners: Wayne and Jennifer and min-pin mix named Gretl.

I had an interesting discussion about is Tom Cruise gay??? My sister-in-law used to babysit for him in the next town from where I grew up. Richard Gere went to high school with me. I was cool, he was a dork, now we are both cool. I think they put something in the water for the men. But, Rod Serling, too, was from the area...those long upstate NY winters....that's where "The Wizard of Oz" was written. Something in the water.....me thinks it is true.

Saw a great collie/sheperd mix named Guiness, because when he was a pup his tummy looked just like a freshly poured Guiness. But, this dog has a tail like a cross between a feather duster and a plume....and it was always wagging. He was King of the pool...and he protected his territory.

The other day, I called Promise a he, rather than she, as she is in fact. But, Maureen was telling me that Promise does not have issues with gender identity. Most dogs I have discerned do not much care about all of that stuff. They hump from front to back, fron back to front, they do 69, they have no need to get a room and do not care if anyone calls them gay. I wish I could be so unself-conscious. They just go about, going about...tis a gift to be simple...that's why people have shrinks...it is like having an urban extended family grandmother whom you can go to and let down your hair and vent. But, in our urban life, we need to pay someone for this since we no longer have families to fulfill that function. Don't you wish your grandmother were still around to visit and have her make cookies for you? Adult life usually does not provide us with a grandma and her ubiquitous cookies. I long for the days of ubiquitous cookies. Today I was speaking with someone at dp who shared that since her mother had passed away of cancer about 10 years prior that many people kept coming into her life with a parent dying of cancer. The universe speaks and is interconnected on a molecular level. I believe that humans and dogs and all living creatures carry with them the DNA from everyone of their ancestors.

I think there are regularly the same people at dog park because we have a similar need to connect in a way that is free form and not necessarily social as in having a dinner party. I was thinking about writing a book many years ago. Well, that may not happen, but I will have a blog. I was told today at dp by a human who works for a magazine that they tell people who want to write and publish, to start a blog. After that one needs to develop a following. So, if you think this is worth following, please forward it onto other dog freaks and freaks of wanting to know how and why people tick. I am not Julia Childs or Julie for that matter and my idea of cooking is micro wave oriented. So, find what you like about this and make it your own.

Today Is Another Day...thankfully

Hello y'all;

We had it made in the shade today. It was a perfect Chicago summer day...not too hot, but a beautiful blue skies day and nary a cloud to be seen. The shade bench had all the usual suspects and one who was there yesterday whom I had forgotten to mention: that is Chimichura and her human. The topics were all about Arizona laws, bike riding laws and new dogs: a second Murphy Mystery Dog came to dp. Murphy looks like a cross between a Bernaise Highlander, sheperd, and perhaps Rotty with a hint of Borzoi. Murphy is a sweet boy and big too. He is about 100 pounds and tall. So, welcome to him. Hope to see him again soon.

The support fabric of the part is great. Today, Melissa, a dog walker was telling me that people need to vent. I sometimes forget that since all day that's what I do....let people vent. So, when I go to dog park...sometimes it is hard for me...since it is my therapy.

Today a paramore showed up at dog park, surprising his amore. T and M were united when T wandered in from his second job. M said that she thought very highly of him on their first date when T picked up after her dog's droppings. Now that is what all the women on the shade bench decided was a very admirable quality in a man.

The dog usual suspects seem to know all the human usual suspects. Kind of fun that way....it is like a tribe of dogs and humans. Kinda cool, actually, massively cool. The dogs bring so much love and pleasure to we humans.

I met a lady later on at dp who was much chagrinned to admit she had gotten her dog at a pet store in the suburbs. If I had gotten a dog 15 years ago, I would have thought nothing of it. I grew up in the generation of "How Much is that Doggie in the Window" song. So, the lady said she was lucky that her dog was healthy, but no doubt a puppy mill dog. She said she would not make the same mistake twice. I would have made the same mistake in years passed. I looked at my Jordan who rescued me and thought how lucky I am.

I thought about Buster who has gone over the Rainbow Bridge this passed year. I think that where he is, he is forever young and happy and healthy and has unlimited rubber bouncy balls...the kind you fetch.

MUCH ADO ABOUT SOMETHING..ignorance is not bliss

Howdy to my deeply devoted following:

Well, yesterday at dog park was a RED LETTER day. I had to see it to believe it. The usual suspects were dawdling in the shade. The dogs of the pack were all present and accounted for: Promise, Mochi, Jordan, Ollie and Aengus, and numerous other delightful canines. When in came the sharpei mix with an aggressive history. The Human for this dog is somewhat unenlightened in the area of both dog reproduction and behavioral issues. So this dog, whose name is somewhat like North Carolina, who can be pleasant if seen alone and without many dogs around. This NC dog is overstimulated because, at age three, she is still fully packaged...ie., hasn't been spayed. Needless to say, though NC dog was in the time out area, since many humans and their dogs were sitting on the shady bench, this was all too close for comfort. But, that isn't the worst part. Like I said, if I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't believe it. NC dog got very over stimulated and began aggressive type behavior thereby setting off all of the other dogs. The energy in the pack was frenetic. All of the dogs, especially, the male dogs were out of their minds with barking and distress. The owner of the NC dog started blaming the woman human of one of the male dogs. The woman was sitting there, literally, not saying one word. That's right, not word one did she say...much to her credit. I was astounded that the human of NC dog kept saying it was the woman's fault. Some good samaritan tried to speak to the elderly man to explain the necessity of spaying and neutering and how it effected all of the dogs. The man continued to blame the woman silently sitting on the bench. I even got into it saying that the law required spaying and neutering. He insisted that he wanted his female dog to have puppies. I have heard that this man has his dog living in a van. Purportedly, numerous people have looked into this and it is true. I feel, only partly sorry for the man. I am sure that his dog provides him with much comfort. But, he is treating his dog with cruelty and not properly caring for his loyal pet.

I don't know what to say. This man refuses to take any responsibility for the behavior or health of his dog. This is animal cruelty. Our animals deserve better.

So, that chaos left me wondering how one person can be so dumb in the face of all evidence to the contrary.

NEARLY 2 YEARS OUT

Hi All,

I am nearly two years out from GBP=RY. I have lost about 108 pounds and am grateful for this wonderful opportunity. I have had a remarkable outcome. But, I have noticed that eating comes easier to me these days. I have not gained weigth, but fear it. I noticed that someone posted that after two years...it gets harder. Anyone care to explain? Thanks. Roe
