Howdy to my deeply devoted following:
Well, yesterday at dog park was a RED LETTER day. I had to see it to believe it. The usual suspects were dawdling in the shade. The dogs of the pack were all present and accounted for: Promise, Mochi, Jordan, Ollie and Aengus, and numerous other delightful canines. When in came the sharpei mix with an aggressive history. The Human for this dog is somewhat unenlightened in the area of both dog reproduction and behavioral issues. So this dog, whose name is somewhat like North Carolina, who can be pleasant if seen alone and without many dogs around. This NC dog is overstimulated because, at age three, she is still fully packaged...ie., hasn't been spayed. Needless to say, though NC dog was in the time out area, since many humans and their dogs were sitting on the shady bench, this was all too close for comfort. But, that isn't the worst part. Like I said, if I hadn't seen it, I wouldn't believe it. NC dog got very over stimulated and began aggressive type behavior thereby setting off all of the other dogs. The energy in the pack was frenetic. All of the dogs, especially, the male dogs were out of their minds with barking and distress. The owner of the NC dog started blaming the woman human of one of the male dogs. The woman was sitting there, literally, not saying one word. That's right, not word one did she say...much to her credit. I was astounded that the human of NC dog kept saying it was the woman's fault. Some good samaritan tried to speak to the elderly man to explain the necessity of spaying and neutering and how it effected all of the dogs. The man continued to blame the woman silently sitting on the bench. I even got into it saying that the law required spaying and neutering. He insisted that he wanted his female dog to have puppies. I have heard that this man has his dog living in a van. Purportedly, numerous people have looked into this and it is true. I feel, only partly sorry for the man. I am sure that his dog provides him with much comfort. But, he is treating his dog with cruelty and not properly caring for his loyal pet.
I don't know what to say. This man refuses to take any responsibility for the behavior or health of his dog. This is animal cruelty. Our animals deserve better.
So, that chaos left me wondering how one person can be so dumb in the face of all evidence to the contrary.
That's all she wrote. Roe
